Your Data Belongs to You
At The Banana App (operated by Cause Connect Pte. Ltd.), we believe in transparency and your fundamental right to privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data with care and respect.
Core Principle: Your data belongs to you. We never use your data for AI training or any other purposes beyond delivering and improving our service to you.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address and basic profile information
- Account preferences and settings
- Language preferences
- IP address at signup (used solely to detect fraudulent account creation and abuse)
- Device push-notification identifier (FCM token) used to detect duplicate accounts created from the same device
- User-agent / device type at signup (used for fraud detection)
Voice Data
- Voice is processed in real-time during calls for translation (not stored)
- Optional voice samples for voice cloning (only if you opt-in to this feature)
- Voice training snippets (can be deleted at any time from Settings)
Important: App-to-app calls are NOT recorded
Your voice during calls with other Banana App users is processed in real-time for translation and is not recorded or stored. We only store voice samples if you explicitly opt-in to voice cloning, and these samples can be deleted anytime from your profile settings.
Outbound calls to external phone numbers (PSTN) ARE recorded
When you place a call from The Banana App to a regular phone number, the call audio is recorded. We do this to (a) comply with telecom carrier requirements, (b) investigate disputes or abuse reports, and (c) ensure translation quality. Recordings are stored encrypted with strict access controls and never used to train AI models. You may request access to or deletion of recordings of calls you initiated via our DSR Request Form.
Usage and Analytics Data
- App usage patterns and feature interactions
- Performance metrics and error logs
- Device information and technical specifications
Call Metadata
For every call placed via the app we store metadata to operate billing, support, and fraud detection:
- Call timestamps and duration
- Participant information
- Languages used during the call
- Call type (app-to-app, agent, or outbound PSTN)
- For outbound PSTN calls: the E.164 phone number you dialed and the matched country code
For app-to-app calls we do NOT record or store:
- The actual content of your voice calls with other users
- Transcripts or recordings of your conversations
- What you say during calls
For outbound PSTN calls, audio recordings are stored as described in the Voice Data section above.
AI Agent Conversations
The Banana App offers AI agents that you can have conversations with. Unlike calls with other users, conversations with AI agents are stored to provide you with a better experience.
What We Store:
- Your conversation history with AI agents
- Context from previous interactions to improve future conversations
Why We Store This:
- To maintain context across conversations so the agent remembers your interactions
- To improve the quality of conversations and our AI services
Your Data, Your Rights
This conversation data belongs to you. You can exercise your data subject rights at any time, including requesting access to, correction of, or deletion of your conversation data through our DSR Request Form.
Voice Cloning (Optional)
Voice cloning is an optional feature that allows your translated speech to sound like your natural voice. You are never required to enable this feature.
- Opt-in only: You must explicitly choose to enable voice cloning
- Your control: You can delete your voice training data at any time from the Settings page
- Immediate deletion: When you request deletion, we remove your voice data promptly
- At your discretion: The choice to create and use a voice clone is entirely yours
How We Use Your Data
We use your information solely for:
- Service Delivery: Providing real-time voice translation during calls
- Service Improvement: Enhancing translation quality and app performance
- User Experience: Personalizing your experience and maintaining your preferences
- Analytics: Understanding usage patterns to improve features and fix issues
We will NEVER:
- Use your data to train AI models (ours or third-party)
- Sell your data to third parties
- Use your voice data for any purpose other than providing you service
Fraud Prevention & Anti-Abuse
To keep the service available and affordable for everyone, we use a set of signals to detect and prevent abuse — particularly fraudulent referral activity and abuse of free trial credits.
Signals we use:
- IP address at the time of signup
- Device push-notification identifier (used to detect multiple accounts created on the same device)
- Email address (matched against previously banned accounts)
- Rate of signups, calls, and referral redemptions per account/IP
What we do with them:
- Auto-disqualify referral rewards if anti-abuse signals match (no rewards granted)
- Suspend accounts that we determine are engaged in coordinated fraudulent activity
- Block re-creation of suspended accounts using the same email address
We do not share these signals with third parties, and we do not use them for advertising. If your account has been suspended in error, please contact us at support@thebanana.app.
Third-Party Services
To enable real-time voice translation, we pass your voice data to trusted third-party service providers. These services are essential for our app to function.
When your data is processed by third-party services, their respective privacy policies and terms of service apply to that processing. By using The Banana App, you acknowledge and accept that your data may be processed by our service providers under their terms.
We carefully select partners who:
- Maintain high security and privacy standards
- Process data only as necessary for service delivery
- Are contractually bound to protect your information
Data Retention and Storage
Active Service: We retain your data as long as your account is active to provide you with continuous service and improvements.
Temporary Storage: Some data may be stored temporarily for quality assurance purposes but will be removed within an acceptable timeframe or immediately upon your request.
Local Storage: Certain data is stored locally on your device and is not accessible to us. If you delete the app or reset your device, this local data will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered.
Deletion Rights: You can request deletion of your voice training data at any time through the Settings page, and we will process this request promptly.
Your Privacy Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Deletion: Delete your voice training data or request account deletion
- Correction: Update or correct your personal information
- Opt-out: Disable optional features like voice cloning
- Data Portability: Request your data in a portable format

Children's Privacy (COPPA)
The Banana App is not intended for children under 13 years of age. By creating an account, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will promptly delete it.
Data Subject Rights (DSR)
We support and comply with data subject rights requests as required by applicable privacy laws including GDPR, CCPA, and other regional regulations.
You may submit requests to:
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Restrict processing of your data
- Object to processing
- Export your data (data portability)

Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and regular security assessments.
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
Your continued use of The Banana App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
